Soda ash‌, scientific name sodium carbonate, chemical formula Na₂CO₃, is an important inorganic chemical raw material, common names include soda, soda ash, alkaline noodles or washing soda. Soda ash is a white odorless powder or granules at room temperature. It is hygroscopic and will gradually absorb moisture and form lumps when exposed to the air. It is easily soluble in water and glycerin, slightly soluble in anhydrous ethanol, and has the highest solubility at 35.4°C. 49.7 grams of sodium carbonate can be dissolved in every 100 grams of water. The aqueous solution of soda ash is alkaline (pH=11.6) and has a certain degree of corrosiveness.
